Brandon City Services — A Resident's Guide
Published May 20, 2026 · ~ 4 min read
The City of Brandon runs the day-to-day services residents actually rely on: garbage, water, roads, parks, recreation. This is the practical map — what each service is, where to find info, and how to contact them.
Garbage, recycling & yard waste
Brandon runs weekly residential garbage collection plus recycling. Yard waste pickup runs seasonally. Pickup schedules vary by neighbourhood — check the City's waste collection page on brandon.ca for your specific schedule.
Holiday delays: Statutory holidays usually shift pickup by a day. What goes in which bin: Posted on brandon.ca. Bulky items: Special pickup arrangements available.
Water & sewer
Water and sewer are managed by the City. Set up your account when you move in. Billing is monthly or quarterly depending on plan. For water main breaks or sewer backups, call the City's 24/7 line listed on brandon.ca.
Road maintenance, potholes, street lights
To report a pothole, broken street light, or street issue, the City of Brandon has an online service request form on brandon.ca. Some categories also accept phone reports. Snow removal info is in the snow removal guide.
Noise complaints, by-law enforcement
Noise complaints, property maintenance issues, animal control concerns, and by-law enforcement requests go through the City's by-law office. There's a complaint form on brandon.ca; for active disturbances after-hours, BPS non-emergency line is the right call.
Parks, recreation, libraries
The City runs Brandon's public parks, recreation programs, and (jointly with the Library system) the central library. Recreation registration is online via brandon.ca/recreation. Library services through brandonlibrary.com.
Property taxes & assessment
Property tax bills come from the City annually. Manitoba property assessment is separate (provincial), with values updated periodically. To appeal assessment, there's a formal process through the provincial Assessment Branch.
Pet licensing
Dogs in Brandon require a city licence (and rabies vaccination current). Annual renewal. Tag goes on your dog's collar. Cats also require licensing. Application via brandon.ca.
Public notices & consultations
When the City is making a decision that needs public input — zoning, by-laws, budget — they post public notices. Usually on brandon.ca, sometimes through direct mail to affected residents. Council agendas list upcoming decisions.
How to contact the City
The main City Hall reception line and contact info is on brandon.ca/contact. Specific departments often have their own direct lines listed. For after-hours emergencies (water main break, etc.) the 24/7 line is also on the contact page.
City service changes (collection schedules, road work, water shutoffs, by-law updates) will flow through Good Morning Brandon under "Civic & Council". Ships when 100 of us subscribe.
