Brandon Snow Removal & Winter Updates

Published May 20, 2026 · ~ 3 min read

Brandon winters mean snow ban activations, parking restrictions, plow routes, and occasional road closures. Missing a parking ban gets you a ticket; missing a plow schedule can leave your street piled in. Here's how to stay on top of it.

Snow ban activations

When the City activates a snow ban, parking restrictions kick in on designated streets so plows can do their job. Bans usually run overnight and are announced hours in advance, not days. Miss one and you get a ticket (and possibly towed).

Where to check:The City of Brandon Facebook page is the fastest. The City's alerts page on brandon.ca is the official source.

Plow schedules & priority routes

Brandon prioritizes main arteries, transit routes, and emergency-service streets first. Residential streets come later — sometimes days after a big snowfall. The City publishes a snow removal priority map on brandon.ca.

Bring expectations down: in a major storm, your residential street might not get plowed for 1–3 days. Plan for it.

Road conditions outside the city

For Trans-Canada and Manitoba provincial highways during winter, check Manitoba 511. Live road condition maps, closure alerts, and webcams. Essential before any winter drive to Winnipeg or further.

Emergency / blizzard updates

During major blizzards, the City and Brandon Police Service post updates on Facebook first — school closures, hospital advisories, no-travel advisories. 880 CKLQ radio cuts in with emergency announcements when needed.

Sidewalks & private property

Brandon residents are responsible for clearing the sidewalk in front of their own property within 24 hours of a snowfall. By-law enforcement does respond to complaints. Check current by-law specifics on brandon.ca.
