How to Track Brandon City Council Decisions
Published May 20, 2026 · ~ 4 min read
Council decides things that affect your day-to-day in Brandon — tax rates, zoning, parking, snow removal contracts, by-laws. Most of it's public, but the information isn't bundled in a way that's easy to follow. Here is how to actually keep up.
The official source: brandon.ca/agendas
The City publishes council agendas and minutes on brandon.ca. Agendas go up a few days before each meeting. Minutes are posted after the meeting is approved at the following session. This is the source of truth.
When council meets
Brandon City Council typically meets every two weeks on Monday evenings at City Hall. Public meetings; you can attend in person or watch online. Special meetings and committee meetings happen between regular sessions.
How to watch
Council meetings are livestreamed on the City's YouTube channel. Recordings stay up afterward — useful if you want to hear the actual discussion (not just the minutes summary) on a specific item.
Brandon Sun council coverage
The Brandon Sun's civic reporter covers council closely. After major decisions, the Sun publishes the human-language version with context — usually same day or next day. Paywalled but worth subscribing if you follow civic stuff.
Public engagement opportunities
For specific by-laws and decisions, the City often runs public consultations — surveys, town halls, written submission periods. These are announced on the City website and Facebook page. If you want input into a decision, this is when.
Quick reads vs. deep follow
If you just want a quick "what did council do this week":
- Brandon Sun next-day coverage (paywalled but concise)
- City of Brandon Facebook page post-meeting recap (free)
- bdnmb.ca occasional summary
If you want the actual decision and reasoning:
- Council minutes on brandon.ca (lag of 2-4 weeks after meeting)
- YouTube livestream / recording of the actual meeting
When 100 Brandon residents sign up, we'll launch Good Morning Brandon — a daily email that summarizes council decisions (under "Civic & Council") so you don't have to read agendas yourself.
